Howard Homecoming 2008 - Saturday NIGHT!

It's the end of the weekend and if you're not tired yet, pull out your freekum and your hard bottoms and let's take over the city:

If you're looking for THE party to cram into, The Park at Fourteenth (920 14th Street NW). Diddy and AJ will be in the building. They're requesting only black attire (swankkkkky). The party goes until 3 AM.

If you've got the money (because the $45 tickets are sold out and it'll be $80 to get in) head to Bobby Vans (12th and NY Ave. NW) where DJ Kid Capri will be on the tables. It's a masquerade theme...oh and did I mention open bar ALL NIGHT with free appetizers and free deserts all night too??

Penang (1837 M Street NW) and Mai Thai (1200 19th Street NW) are shutting down 19th and M Streets to bring you one of the first block parties in years! A great idea, one price gets your admission to both venues. Get your tickets here...they range from $20-$250.

The third annual Cufflinks and Cocktails party is going down at Champions in Georgetown (1206 Wisconsin Ave. NW). Admission is $20 with a complimentary buffet.

Some sexy HU alum like Lamman Rucker will be at The Republic (1355 U Street NW) tonight. Also, Ryan Leslie (who is working the homecoming scene) will be in the building. Happy Hour from 7-10. Get in with a discount when your print this. Don't think this party will shut down anytime soon. Around 2 AM the party starts all over again and goes until 'until'. Complimentary breakfast from 3-5 AM. The first 500 ladies get in free (at 2 AM).

Y'all know about my huge musical crush on Ryan Leslie. Well, he'll be at Zanzibar (700 Water Street SW) tonight. Reduced admission before 10 PM.(that's mad early)

The City Museum (801 K Street NW) is poppin' off tonight with the sounds of Biz Markie (he's working this weekend, ain't he?). The party is called "Old Skool meets New School" with DJ Quicksilva reppin' the new school. Angie Ang will also be in the building.

Layla (501 Morse Street NW) is hosting a party tonight featuring DJ SNS. It's a more upscale venue (meaning freekum dresses).

CALLING ALL GREEKS (and people who love them)! The Kappas, Alphas, Omegas and Sigmas (damn, the Iotas never get no love!) are hosting tonight's party at Fur (33 Patterson Street NE). The first 500 ladies with this flyer get in free! :) It's 18+ to get in here.

Wow, I haven't partied here in years...Cafe Asia (1720 Eye Street NW) is having a HU alumni party for the classes of '97-'07. The party goes until 3 AM. Don't pay more than $20 to get in here. :)

Recap: An Entry-Level Effort at Mai Thai

It rained and then it stopped and then it rained and then it stopped. That still didn't prevent anyone from going out this weekend. With all of the cool people at the ALC Gala, I was at home, taking a nap before heading out to Mai Thai and Penang (although I never made it there to wish Nate of Talk of DC a happy birthday).

Although I did see Lil Fizz (I lie to you not) of the disbanded boy group B2K outside on the corner of 19th and M Street NW. I was such a fan of the Pandemonium album.

Mai Thai, although the name of the party was "Executive Suite" was an entry level effort. Sure, whenever a party has Sayo's name on it the beautiful people will come but the DJ was mediocre (why did you play your old skool set in the beginning of the party?) and by the end of the night, it turned into a mingling social ...much less a party.

I liked her diggs...

Happy Birthday to Eric Brady who celebrated his birthday here!

Recap: Esby Inc.'s Move to Mai Thai

On Saturday night I celebrated my ls birthday with Esby Inc. at Mai Thai (1200 19th Street NW). Although they usually hold down Penang, which is right across the street because of some rumor or another (greedy restaurant owners/trying new things/etc.) they decided to party it up at Mai Thai.

For some reason I couldn't help but think of how G4 used to do it.

And it was easy to think that with Mecca AKA Ready Set Go on the mic and DJ KI on the tables. Still, the college educated DC socialites finally filled up Mai Thai close to 1 AM (when I arrived...smile).

(From left to right) DC Fab! fan Mary with DC Fab! Correspondent Miss Aminata. Both look fab! Well done ladies!

I spotted a lot of people who continually hold down DC, like my man Colin from Clockwise Clothing, Anwaa from Dope Fresh Clothing, Ms. Kimiko, Nate from Talk of DC and even Washington Wizards new recruit Javale McGee was trying to pop bottles here (nobody cared too much but he did stand out...all 7 feet of him).

I don't know about you but it's nice to go where everybody knows your name! :)

Spotted: Javale McGee Clubbin' and Poppin' Bottles

New Wizard recruit Javal McGee (who is only 20 years old by the way) was spotted in Mai Thai (1200 19th Street NW) last Saturday poppin' bottles and towering over the crowd. He's 7 feet tall...not exaggerating.

Doug E. Fresh at Republic | Mai Thai | Station 9 | Layla

There's plenty of things to do tonight but here are my top four:

Doug E. Fresh, the king of old school, will be at Republic (1355 U Street NW) tonight. DJ Trini will be on the tables and everyone is free before midnight!

I can't call it the new hot spot yet but it is a new spot. Much like a smaller...much smaller Love, Layla Lounge (501 Morse Street NE) is open tonight for the socialite crowd. Let's hope they get it poppin' this weekend!

Sayo and crew are back at Mai Thai (1200 19th Street NW). And with an open bar until midnight it doesn't get any better than this tonight. Click here to see pics of previous parties.

Station 9 (1438 U Street, NW) is a great establishment in a very chill neighborhood. Everyone is free until midnight but you have to RSVP. Come here if you have a large group of friends and if you're prepared to make your own party. If you want to booty pop on a handstand...don't come here! :)

Mini Recap: Esby's 1837 M moves to Mai Thai

So I get this email in my inbox today regarding Sayo and Esby, Inc.'s move to Mai Thai. Thier party, which was established at Penang (1837 M Street NW), went right across the street. The move had people wondering if they could pull off the switch. A party goer writes:

Mai Thai, despite being hidden behind construction fences was actually more than poppin' on Saturday. Kimiko and the gang held it down and did a great job of attracting some of the DMV's finest ladies. The ratio must have been 3 females to 2 males. The bar was much easier to access than at Penang and there was also more space to lounge. With the music being louder towards the front, it gave ample space to socialize in the back. Ready Set Go aka Mecca was hyping the crowd all night and overall it was an enjoyable Saturday.

Congrats Sayo! Check out his next party at...well I'm not sure where it is now but you know DC Fab! will keep you updated :)

Saturday Night Fever

Okay y'all so forgive me for not picking out the hottest parties for Friday...did anybody have a good time in the District? If so, tell me about it! Still, I've hand picked where the party is on Saturday and we've got some good ones:

My favorite sisters, Angela and Vanessa Simmons will be at Republic (1355 U Street NW) tonight. I heard last Saturday was packed and if that's any indication of tonight, get there early. The Simmons sisters will also be signing autographs at 2 PM in Shoe City at PG Plaza today, promoting their new pastry line! Click here for more info.

If you haven't already checked it out, Layla Lounge (501 Morse Street) will be poppin' tonight. Check out DC Fab!'s review from last week here.

If you go to 1837 M Street NW looking for a party you won't find it. The party has moved across the street to (our beloved) Mai Thai (1900 M Street NW). When asked why they decided to switch, Ms. Kimiko said, "We decided to switch for several reasons, Mai Thai is a more elegant venue in general. More intricate decor, very exotic inside...(I'm sure you already know). We felt like the venue better suits the type of crowd we bring out. There were some business reasons but no need to get into detail, I will say Mai Thai will better accomodate our guests and their needs..there will not be long waits at the bar, bottle service, etc." Cool.

p.s. Sayo can you call me back? Thanks!

Memorial Day 08: Your Friday Night

YEAH!!...not only do we have a four day weekend, we're also supposed to have lovely weather over Memorial Day weekend. I'll be in Boston (...y'all know I can't sit still) but you've been asking me (thanks for your patience)...and I finally have my top picks (in no particular order of course) for your Friday night party! :)

(Photo: Me and my girls last Memorial Day spent in Dade County...that song was hot then)

Pasha (2147 P Street NW) is continuing their Friday night party into Memorial Day weekend. Hosted by The Talk of DC, you'll get in free before 11 PM. I know everyone wants to celebrate their graduation this weekend and Pasha has tables going for $350-$1000 (wow...$1000!...that's a bit much for Pasha)...at least they have $5 patron and ciroc before 11.

G4 is continuing to pop back on the scene at Mai Thai (1200 19th Street NW). A loooot of UMDers will be celebrating their graduations here so if you know somebody that knows somebody perhaps you'll be acting a fool here. Shout out to my DC Fab! correspondent Aminata and Video Fab! correspondent Felicia on their graduation! :) One of my fav DJs will be on the 1s and 2s, DJ KI so the music will be good. I don't know for some reason I foresee people dancing on couches...hmmm...Oh yea, it's free until midnight. *UPDATE*: G4 Scott says, "If you don't get a bad chick's number tonight, I'll give you your money back!!". Please take him up on his offer. :)

So who isn't promoting Mayorga Cafe (3301 14th Street NW)? Some of your favs will be in the building this Friday at this nice spot hidden in Columbia Heights. I was supposed to check it out last week but then my sinuses were effin' my swag up so I stayed in the house...still, I hear a lot of ladies were in the place...almost too many. Fellas, you may find your number one fan here.

Chee Chee and Cheeky bring out an older, more professional crowd to Station 9 (1438 U Street NW). Station 9 has great areas for lounging and enjoying a cocktail. Don't expect things to pop off too much here...although the flyer says they'll "crank that Soulja Boy"...hmm I doubt it...It's $10 and the party is on the second floor.

Stay fab y'all! :)

p.s. Have y'all heard the new Common and Pharell song?! It's bumpin! Get it here!

Vintage Flow at Mai Thai...I mean Penang

Last Saturday (12.29.07) I thought I was going to my beloved Mai Thai (19th and M St. NW) for a Sayo and G4 Party...nope... I got the call that the party was moved to Penang (19th and M St. NW) due to the fact that Mai Thai doesn't have an entertainment license. Sad stuff.

For sure, I knew the traveling party at Penang was going to be a flop...but no, Sayo and G4's loyal attendees followed them across the street. And in case you missed the memo, someone was outside of Mai Thai to direct you a few more steps to the actual venue.

Penang, of course still had it's setbacks...it's small and there's never enough bartenders but the place was packed and people didn't seem to mind where the party was... especially the folks doing the Electric Slide in the back!

Oh yea, shout out to Muna of Vivid Fusion and Anton...I see you came to support.

This party had everything from coat check to cold blood as an unfortunate fight broke out over some nonsense...even the DJ was 'bout to start swinging. Good thing it was close to 3 am by that time.

Here are some pics in case you missed it:

(Photo: A Packed Penang)

(Photo: Rahsaan of G4 keepin' the party live. Check out his blog!)

(Photo: Torrel of Torrel, LLC and your girl, Joi-Marie)

I gotta shout out my old friend from UMD, Torrel. Last November, 'Rel and his father started Torrel, LLC after they got the licensing to put our old fav Nintendo logos on urban wear. Check out the video below:

Okay y'all...Stay fab!

New Years Parties in DC | Mai Thai | Penang | Ibiza | Fur | K Street| H20

Sorry it's taken me so long to give you the rundown on what's happening in DC on New Years Eve 2007. But I've kept my ear to the ground and here's what's going on around town:

Before the New Year's celebrations even pop off, Mai Thai (19th and M St. NW) is coming back with the Grand Finale of G4's Fashion Monster's series. With Esby Inc. in tow, I'm sure this party will be G&S (that's grown and sexy for the slow folk).

A lot of people have been telling me they've missed Mai Thai so I hope it doesn't dissapoint. With $5 valet and hopefully some ventilation, come spend your Christmas money here.

-------------------------------------------------

It's New Years and you want to know where to go...for cheap?

The cheapest I've found is (of course) Fur nightclub (33 Patterson Street NE). It's an 18+ party so I won't be there...but the kiddies need to have fun too! It's only $25 to get in and they have 3 hours of open bar!!!

-------------------------------------------------

Then, for $35 you can head to Ibiza nightclub (1222 First Street, NE) , which is right down the street from Fur. I'm sure Ibiza won't get crowded, because this place is so HUGE. It's figgin' 30,000 sq. feet!!! It's also 18+ so before you get the digits, check her ID. They also have VIP for $150 which gets you open bar from 9-2 AM.

-------------------------------------------------

And if you're ballin', you can spend $50 to get into K Street Lounge (1301 K Street NW) .The party is sponsored by Dom Perignon and they have open bar from 9 - 10 PM.

Doesn't seem like a good deal to me...

-------------------------------------------------

Calling all Trey Songs fans!!!!! He'll be at H20 (800 Water Street) on New Years. It's $30 with open bar from 8 - 10 AM. Drinks and a show for $30; can't beat that! Thanks Abdul!!

-------------------------------------------------

And if you love to party on 19th and M, Sayo & crew are giving us New Years at his new spot Penang (1837 M Street, NW). For $65, you'll have open bar from 9- 3 AM. You can only get your tickets here. The attire is cocktail and for all you cheap people, general admission is $40.

More to come...

For Those Who Like to Think Ahead

For Those Of You Who Aren't Worn Out From Labor Day...

So Lotus is trying very hard to get people to come to their spot...Everybody free all night with an hour of open bar from 7 -8 PM. I'm still not going. Sorry Dom and Tupac.

But Wednesday's at K Street is a bomb! The food is banging, open bar from 6 -8 PM and a dinner buffet at 7 PM. I went last week and it was hella' fun. Ladies free all night and they're selling bottles of Moet for $50. Can't beat it.

SOULJAH BOY IS COMING TO TOWN!!!!! Shut the F up! I love this dance! I'm there...Love Nightclub (of course) 9-2 AM

"Now Superman that HOE!"

Is Cassidy moving to DC or something? Yesterday he was at H20 and next Friday he'll be at the Avenue. The Avenue sucks...it's on one of the busiest streets in DC (NY Ave), the drinks are aiight...and it looks like you're partying in a warehouse. Actually upstairs is pretty nice with the couches but I'm still not impressed.

GET READY FOR ROUND TWO:

CAFE ASIA v. MAI THAI!

Yo...where will you be when the gloves come out!?!?!

Mitch, you better step your game up...word on the street is that R&B might be what's poppin' this weekend.

ROUND 1: Mai Thai and G4

And the Winner is...G4

So I finally found someone who went to Cafe Asia, they said:

There was a $20 cover, which is a little pricy considering its not the hottest thing yet and EyeBar next door doesn't charge. The music was cool, hype man was cool, but the party never really jumped off. Bartenders were great (major plus in my book, kept me drinkin lol)! Lots of girls. Not the most attractive or interesting crowd. Then there were the models in panties serving people fruit. Sadly I'd prolly go again, cause I don't want to go to H20.

I'm ready for round two!

For All You Go-Go Headsssss...

Rare Essence, EU & Suttle Thoughts are at the Crystal City Hilton on Labor Day. I'm from Bmore so you know I won't be there...but I ain't hatin'.

*

Where the Groupies Will Be...

Roger Mason (Washington Wizards) needs his hair done. ASAP.

*

Emily King is coming into town for her album release. Is it me or is every C-list celeb coming into town and having an album release party. First Lil Mo' now Emily King. (Don't get me wrong I love love love Mo' but still)

EKing is doin' her thing at K Street. I love their Wed. nights, you may see me there.

*

If you like to think ahead...

BCBG and Trademark Ent. throw a party at Ozio's on Thursday nights. It looks super grown (borderline OLD) and kinda' sexy. Check it out...cuz the DJ is oh-so-sexy, if you ask me.

The oh-so-sexy DJ. Look at them gunssss...

Aiight y'all, I'll see ya' tonight!
