Recap: 1693's Technicolor at Olives

Im going to start off by saying I blame Miles for telling the bartender (shout to Chanel!), "They can order whatever they want." All bad!

(Photo: Team BBC's Miles with Marc Barnes, a legend in the DC party scene and Dave of Dave & Ray)

Anyway, 1693's June attempt to put some color on the party scene worked. Without thier normal bag of tricks (I really expected some colorful lighting, glow sticks... perhaps even the spotlights outside I thought would have some multicolor aspect) but no, 1693 just supplied a classy venue for a nice party.

(Photo: My night vision camera captured all the patrons enjoying Olives last Saturday)

I go out too much to worry about which dress would be perfect for this occasion. Still, the women were decked out in what looked like a nod to Prom night. They definitely looked good although some of them did a little too much. But I can't hate... my middle name is 'too much' (no smart comments needed. Thanks.).

Men definitely came hard as in they looked good. If you didn't have on a suit jacket in Olives (1600 K Street NW) you were slacking.

And while we're on the men, I don't know if it was because of the particularly strong (and overpriced) drinks... Did my apple martini really come to $16 and some change?! (And why can't the makeshift bar on the first level have glasses like the other two bars? I understand that's normally the kitchen but it is the most convenient bar and you just can't look cute holding plastic) but men came out with the game tonight. Is it beause its hot? Summer is a natural aphrodisiac but please leave the lines and the lies at home.

Some guy actually walked up on me and my homegirl with a dumb look on his face and just stood there... We're like ..."Hi???"... He responds,"How do I look?"

"Dumb," I say in all seriousness and I think that made him more intrigued. Boo. Another guy told me he was a toll booth operator...he was wearing seersucker. I don't believe you and why would you say that? Why don't you go to the store and buy some conversation.

(Photo: The night vision caught patrons enjoying themselves on the lower level)

Still, although I've seen it get crazier at Olives, there was no mass confusion at the door (thank God), the line outside the girls bathroom never got stupid long and although it was hot (one of the AC's broke right before the party) it was the most dancing I saw at Olives ever!

One patron said the party felt like an afterhours happy hour. Another said it felt very cliquish... and perhaps it is.

(Photo: DC Fab! Girl with DJ Harry Hotter)

Harry Hotter played the bangers... He even played Wayne and Babyface's new song,"Comfortable" twice. That's my jam so I didn't mind the repeat.

By the end of the night, if you didn't make it up to the upper room... too bad cuz it was hella hot and hella fun... and even had places to rest your feet ladies.

A good effort... Solid fun... B+/A-

The Fab! Rundown | The Saturday Night Edition

So in my effort to keep you better up to date on weekend activities, here are my Saturday night picks (Thanks to S. Breezy for calling me out and making me get my act together):

>> Sayo has been very consistent in bringing a good looking crowd to Penang (1837 M Street NW) and he wouldn't have it any other way... Cuz you will get denied if you're not fly. I also hear he's having an open bar until midnight. To get on the guestlist click here!

>>Whenever this monthly party rolls around, Olives (1600 K Street NW) is always filled to capacity with DC's sociables. This month, the boys have created a very unique theme: Technicolor. I hear they'll be a Ciroc open bar, a lounge sponsored by Vitamin Water, some major ballers (GROUPIE ALERT!) and there are rumors floating that the sexiest dark skinned brother I know will be in the building...Idris Elba (remember who told you first!) :)

>> Want groupie love? These people do...Seesinz from Flava of Love 3 and DeShawn Stevenson are hosting Saturday night at H20 (800 Water Street).

Those will be the best parties in the city... So yea, nothing else to say about that.

Happy weekend :)

Apparently, Brian Westbrook (Philly Eagles), Demetric Evans (Redskins), Visanthe Shiancoe (Vikings) and Chelsey Rodgers otherwise known as Miss DC USA (I met her in the bathroom at Mai Thai, very nice girl) all balled out and bought tables. Groupies and moupies, if you missed this then you missed out!

Look out for their next event in June...it's one you don't want to miss! :)

Mini-Recaps: The Park at 14th | Penang | Olives

By midnight, The Park at 14th (920 14th Street NW) was packed with a line outside to match. If you were lucky and had a table you got right in. Otherwise, you were shivering outside, enduring the dropping temperature. Inside, wall to wall people showed off their latest threads. With a boughie atmosphere to match The Park's sparkling ambiance the only bad thing about The Park is it's desire to cater to everyone so one minute you're dancing to your fav tunes while the next minute you're wishing you were somewhere else. Shout out to Innocent who celebrated his birthday here! :)

Sayo and Esby Inc. hosted another party at Penang (1837 M Street NW). A great day to host a party, many were out celebrating a graduation or two. By the time I arrived at Penang (around 2) everyone was drunk...or on their way. Shout out to my 'best friend' Jeremy who celebrated his bday here! Sayo wanted to transform Penang from it's rustic interior to a super swank atmosphere. I'm not sure if he succeeded but at least the bar was cleaner and I did notice some 'flower arrangements' on the table...and you couldn't miss the tent...I don't know. Some called the party cliquish, mostly friends enjoying friends while others called it a Mai Thai Pt. 2. Regardless, people are still going to come out to a Sayo production so I'm def looking forward to the next one.

Olives (1600 K Street NW), which (thankfully) brings a different (and slightly older) crowd out on the scene, popped off. An extra special Happy Birthday goes to Miles! :) Sorry I couldn't make it...pics to come I'm sure!

p.s. Stay dry y'all...I'm so sick of this rain...
p.s.s. Joi-Marie. This extra since 1999. (And Roy I don't need no smart co-signage here!)

Congrats 1693 to another successful party at Olives! ...and shout out to Miles for keeping me in the loop and not holding my trips to NYC against me! :)

Recap: 1693 presents Monarchy at Olives

It seems that everyone has been talking about 1693's party at Olives (1600 K Street)...many have been giving me their opinion (feel free to leave your comments below!) but here's my opinion:

1693 brought out one of the best looking crowds I've seen in the longest time. With all of the hype surrounding this party thanks to Comcast being there and Rock the Vote encouraging all of us to vote no matter our party affiliations, this party seemed to have it all (although I never saw the free champagne, wine etc.). Oh yea, but they did have Visanthe Shiancoe of the Minnesota Vikings and Brian Westbrook of the Philadelphia Eagles, both DMV natives.

(Photo: The line outside of Olives)

One thing 1693 doesn't have a problem doing is getting people to come out. The door was one of the craziest things...I hear people started lining up at 9 PM to get into this restaurant and even still, those without a pre-paid $30 ticket (hmmm) or who weren't with a birthday party were still left standing outside in the cold for almost an hour. And they told you to come fly, one kid paid $200 to get into this party for not being jazzy enough (And you know he let everybody know he spent that much just to let people know he had that much...not fab boo).

(Photo: Miles from Team BBC being interviewed by Comcast anchorman)

(Photo: Rock the Vote rockin' their signage at the event)

Did I mention this is one of my favorite venues? Lovin' the look of the place...

(Photo: People lookin' lovely in VIP)

(Photo: DJ Harry Hotter on the Apple comp...is there a reason why his name rhymes with Harry Potter? Just curious...)

Of course people were too cute to really get down but the DJ kept it coming with the classic party starters. I can't forget to mention how freezing COLD it was on the first floor...and walk a few steps downstairs and it was hot as hell. Get it together.

And yes, you could hear the chicks complaining about this place only having one bathroom from across the party. Don't drink too much here because you'll have no where to break the seal.

(Photo: Nate Zewdu of Talk of DC and Dave of Dave&Ray ...who I was told I couldn't call Sinbad)

(Photo: They were even giving out hats with "It's Your Call with Lynn Doyle" on it...I'm sorry Lynn but you're gonna have to get cuter hats to want me to carry that with me all night and then have to take it home and then even consider wearing it. Cute girl tho.)

Still, if you weren't here then you missed it. 1693, a very accommodating crew (and they look good too), provided a solid boughie party for all those who wanted to parlay, show off and run up their credit card bills.

Top Party Pick: 1693 Presents Monarchy at Olives | Feb. 23

This Saturday (2.23.08), some of my favorites 1693 are throwing a party called "Monarchy" at Olives (1600 K Street NW). It's also sponsored by Comcast and Rock the Vote so I'm sure this party will have some tricks up its sleeve.

They have this long drawn out explanation of the party but to put it simply, it's the spot to be on Saturday. Tickets are a pricey $30 (hope you get paid this Friday...I don't); click here to get them.

But 1693 knows how to throw a good party. Below is a video from their last event they threw in honor of the AKA's centennial held at the same location.

Recap: AKA's Celebrate 100 Years at Olives

With so much buzz around this party, due to the wonderful promotions of 1693 Luxury Entertainment Group, Olives (1600 K Street NW) celebrated the ladies who wear pink and green!

(Photo: Promoters, Dave & Ray)

Many AKA's from across the nation, came the District, the birthplace of their sorority to celebrate 100 years of sisterhood. I did see a lot of MD AKA's in the place (Shout out to Dea, Darla, Brandi and Kim)!!!

(Photo: The line outside of Olives)

By far a successful night, 500 people were left outside wondering how it was; not to mention the fire marshall had to be called twice! But don't worry, if you were standing outside for long they had those glorious inventions called heat lamps that kept that ladies warm until they reached the door.

Oh yea, and I can't forget who made a special appearance, making everyone feel important: Alena (yes, the former Miss DC) from WPGC who stayed afterward to enjoy the party.

(Photo: Alena 7 interviewing members of AKA Sorority, Inc.)

And if you're wondering what went down inside, well just look below. You missed out!!!!

(Photo: People enjoying the atmosphere inside of Olives)

Congrats to 1693 for a successful party!!!!

p.s. Shout out to TeamBBC.com (It's nothing!) :)

AKA's at Olives | DST at Gallery | Pasha Saturdays | BET Honors at Warner Theatre

It's such a busy weekend in the District. I am so excited for a number of reasons (Shout out to Mia who will be celebrating her birthday in the District with meeee!!!!):

OMG, I'm so glad this event is here...I don't know about you but EVERYONE is talking and/or spamming inboxs about The Jewel Celebration at Olives (1600 K Street NW) on Saturday (1.12.08).

DJ Quicksilver of WKYS will be in the building so you know the music will be good and this party is a part of the AKA's Centennial celebrations. (Congrats to members of AKA Sorority, Inc.) Shout out to David of Dave & Ray who is celebrating his birthday here too!

For more info, click here or here or here! (I told you, everyone is talking about this!)

---

And for my sorors who are looking to party it up on our Founders weekend, Chee Chee and Cheeky Sasso Ent. are having something at the Gallery (1115 East West Highway) in Silver Spring on Saturday (1.12.08). Doors open at 10.

Go there to chill (they have nice couches downstairs) and have a few drinks (their martini glasses are so cute!) before you head into DC. Oh yea, happy birthday to Cheeky too!

---

And if Saturday wasn't busy enough, Pasha (2147 P St. NW) is rolling out the red carpet on the 12th. They ask for you to come in your flyest of fly...just don't come too fly that you can't two step. Vivid got hi-tech on us...See video invite below!

---

Lastly, your girl got invited to the BET Honors at Warner Theatre this Saturday. BET is honoring the best in business (Janice Bryant Howroyd), entertainment (Tyra Banks and Alicia Keys), social justice (Dr. Cornel West) and philanthropy (Maxine Waters).

Shout out to my mentor, Stephen Hill . You can catch this show on BET on Feb. 22.

:) I'll see ya' around!

The Weekend in Review!

Let's Recap! I'm not gon' front and act like I know about everything that went on in the District due to Howard and UMD's Homecoming but lemme tell you what I do know...

Love (1350 Okie Street): A source told me that the bouncers at Love were extremely rude Friday night. When the night was over they (literally) pushed people down the stairs to get them to leave the club and even called some poor patron the B-word all because she wasn't moving down the steps fast enough. Love isn't being too lovely.

Did you know that Love has a new policy where they don't turn off the lights in the club until 1 AM to reduce the fights? (that's wack)

Grade: B-
----------------------------------------------

H20: How disapointinggggg. Lil Wayne never showed up and they had people paying $80 to get up in there. That's a mess.

Grade: F
----------------------------------------------

Tuscana West: This was interesting. Idk why me and my friends tried to get there before 11 (not like I go anywhere early) but...whatever. It got packed, mostly with UMD alum. The drinks were still expensive compared to most lounges and for some reason the dance floor always gets crowded.

It was definitely a college crowd with the DJ shoutin' out Greeks every five seconds.

The DJ...yo, if you gon' preview a song in the middle of another song, could you at least play that song next?? Stop teasin' people. Oh yea, sound system kept cuttin' out and don't try to play it off by talking over it...we're smart.

Oh yea, valet...horrible.

Grade: B +
----------------------------------------------
Cafe Asia: Compared to last week the number of party-goers was smaller yet much better dressed. And although the party flyer said, no degree needed to party (GHETTO) everyone looked like they had at least graduated from high school.

Oh yea, can't forget Hurricane Chris stopped by. Didn't seem like anyone cared tho. Why does he still have those Venus and Serena Williams beads in his head???

Grade: B
----------------------------------------------

Olives: A source told me this place is pretty great...alotta' space altho' there's not many places to sit down and chill. Also, people kept getting upset because all the bars weren't open and people were trying to get J-Kwon. Oh well...

Grade: N/A
----------------------------------------------

Fur: Krush 4.0, the party that started at 2 AM on Saturday gets the "Stand Out Party" prize...altho' by that time people are ready to go to sleep or get someone to go sleep with. Good try tho'...I liked the idea.

All in all, Howard Homecoming was much better than Hampton's and DC stayed fabulous...it had everyone ready to move back to the District.

Grade: N/A

K, bye!

My girls and I at Tuscana West (1350 Eye Street NW)...around 2 AM and we still look good.
