UMD Homecoming 2008 Kick Off Events!

I think it's pretty obvious that I'm a recent graduate from the University of Maryland, College Park (cheers!!!) and it's finally our Homecoming time!!! Here are some kick-off events for tonight:

>> The Park (920 14th Street NW) is having their usual $5 cocktails from 5-8 PM tonight. The party goes until 2 AM. Does anybody else miss the couches and cocktail tables on the first floor?

>> Pure (1326 U Street NW) is hosting "Virtue Thursdays", a new happy hour with open bar from 6-7 PM. They'll also have $1 drink specials until 10, (ooh and my fav) 2 for 1 apple martinis and cosmos until 10. The party goes until 2 AM with my favs DJ Alizay and DJ QuickSilva on the tables.

>> Open bar at Felix (2406 18th Street NW) tonight before 11. Shout out to the Inner Loop DJs who will be in the building.

Labor Day Parties: The Jump Off

There's plenty of parties tonight to kick off one of the most celebrated weekends in the U.S. Sadly, I'll be in Charleston until tommorow afternoon but be sure to tell me what we down and who you saw. To send tips to DC Fab! click here! :)

I don't know about you but I'm a little confused. Both Love (1350 Okie Street NW) and Ibiza (1222 First Street NE) are suggesting that LL Cool J will be stopping by. Not sure which club is telling the truth but perhaps he's coming to both.

Elicit Entertainment is celebrating their launch at Pure (1326 U Street NW). Not too sure about the fab! factor of this party but they're giving away bottles of champagne. So if you're feeling lucky head down to this U Street staple.

The party continues this Friday at Mayorga Lounge (301 14th Street NW). Good people (typically recent college grads), good vibe. Check it out.

Layla Lounge (501 Morse Street) has more of an 'international' vibe tonight but at least ladies get in free all night (Guys, they got you until 11 PM).

Weekend Rundown: Stone Soul etc.

Hi all...okay so I lied when I said I wouldn't be dipping out for the rest of the summer...just taking a short trip to NYC for the weekend with my line sisters! :) So like my man Sean Breezey said, "At least give people the weekend rundown..." And so I will:

>>> Friday: It's 8.8.08 so you have to go out!!! Pure also known as "the old Barnun" (1326 U Street NW) has $1.00 drinks from 6-9 tonight. The usual hot spots are poppin' off Love (1350 Okie Street) and Fur (33 Patterson St. NE) tonight if you like big spots but if you're looking for something new and don't mind traveling outside of the District, check out The Mark (7410 Baltimore Ave.) in College Park. It's a small spot (and yes there will be college kids there) but it's a 21+ spot with a great decor and great drinks!

>>> Saturday: STONE SOUL PICNIC has a great line up and I'm really sad I'm going to miss it. With performances by Solange, Jazmine Sullivan, Eric Benet, Joe, Marvin Sapp and many more head over to RFK Stadium (2400 East Capitol Street, SE) with your family and friends. Afterwards, H20 (800 Water Street) claims to be having the official after party but you can also try out Layla (801 Morse Street), Penang (1837 M Street NW) or Station 9 (1430 U Street NW). Shout out to Anwar at DopeFresh.

>>> Sunday: Cool out on the rooftop at The Beacon Hotel (1615 Rhode Island Ave. NW) from 3-9 PM with drinks, music and a different crowd! :)

Thursday Night Happy Hours

Okay so I dragged myself outta' bed this morning, had some morning car troubles (argh!)...got into work around 12 noon and have been catching up ever since, all the while wanting to pull out my hair ever since (but I didn't cuz I like my curls!). So it looks like we all need to go to happy hour tonight. The best places to check out are:

> For a nice chill but professional  happy hour, hop over to Station 9 (1438 U Street NW) between 6 and 9 PM. I really like this place...walk up the steps to the second floor when you get there.

> If that's not your scene, go down the street to Pure (1326 U Street NW), formerly Barnun for their happy hour. Yo, people be rockin' in here...dancing like it's Friday. Two levels, I like the top one to chill and the bottom one to party. This party goes until 2 AM. 

> Your best bet is 1223 (1223 CT. Ave. NW) from 9-11 PM; it's open bar! (See recap from last week) Guys have to be 21 and are free until 11 and ladies only have to be 18 (hmmm) and are free until 12. My favs will be on the tables: DJ Goldenboy and 'The Hotboy' DJ Quicksilva! Go see for yourself.

Aight peoples...sorry if you checked earlier and nothing was here. Momma was out handling her growns folks things -- getting my hair done :) I had a pamper-me-Friday. You gotta do that sometimes. Shout out to my sister who pampered herself too much today. Luv u too. (she prob not even reading this lol...okay I'm done)

I don't know about Friday nights in DC but I'm hardly impressed. It looks like the major clubs are offering a good time. 

Love (1350 Okie Street) is having their usual Friday night party. I gotta shout out Marc & Taz for throwing a good party for Caron Butler yesterday.

H20 (8oo Water Street SW) is giving ladies free admission until midnight. They even have open bar from 9-11 if you get on the guest list. Click here boo.

Ibiza (1222 First Street NE) is trying to repeat what they created last weekend. I don't know if you can top a Missy Elliott performance and my fav morning drive-time funny man Russ Parr, but why don't you help them try tonight. 

It was such a puuuurty day, so if this isn't your thing why don't you try wandering around U Street. My fav spots to chill are Jin, Mocha Hut, Tabaq and Pure.

UMCP Alum and 49er Vernon Davis along with Brian Westbrook (Philly Eagles) and Lamont Jordan (Oakland Raiders) were up in Pure just like I told you they would...

GROUPIE ALERT! It's glad to see a young brother doing his thing; UMCP alum Vernon Davis (aww, I remember him back when he was living in Baltimore Hall) will be at Pure (1326 U Street NW), formerly known as Barnun tonight. GROUPIE ALERT!

I can't believe I found this sexy fine picture of him...lemme find out! Anyway, he'll be there along with 'models' Tara, Ahni Luv and Lizz Robbins.

Last Friday at Pure was on and popping (read about it here), so don't miss out. The rest of us will be at Ibiza tho... :)

Spotted: Marion Barry at Pure

DC's former mayor Marion Barry was up in Pure (1326 U Street NW) last night 'starting with straight shots and then poppin' bottles'. I heard that... :)

Pure | Friday

So if you haven't stopped by Pure (1326 U Street NW) formerly known as Barnun, then stop by on Friday nights for a chill, non-pretentious, "jeans and nice tee" time. 

Last Friday (2.29.08) a source tells me it was "dumb crowded [up in Pure]." The DJ was on point and it seemed like everyone was in a 'lodi-dodi-we-likes-to-party' mentality.

One thing though (there's always one little thing ain't it??), why do they make it so complicated to get in free? So, you have to text the word "Pure" to 313131 or 131313 (I forget) and getting in free is dependent on if you get a text back -- you can kiss that free admission g'bye if you don't have a text from them. And don't play slick and think your friend can forward the text to you -- they check! They dont play. 

I suppose the benefit is that you don't have to walk around looking dumb with a large 8 1/2 by 11 piece of printer paper just to save a few dollars and have a good time...

Thursday Night | Pure | 1223| R and R Lounge

I'll admit, last night's Happy Hours were a bust around town. So we'll try again tonight. Here are some spots to check out:

Pure (1326 U Street NW) and Street Dreams Entertainment are having 2 for 1 Cosmos and Apple Martinis again. Ladies free until 11 PM.

1223 (1223 CT Ave. NW) has an open bar from 9 - 11 PM. Now that's what I call a happy hour! :)

The Usual Suspectz along with J&K are bringing DC's own Kokayi to R&R Lounge (717 6th St. NW) tonight. He'll be on at 8 PM. Ladies, they have a martini open bar from 8 - 9 PM. Check out Kokayi's style below:

Tidbits: Martinis at Pure | Mambo Sauce | Chrisette Michele at 930 Club

It's Martini Thursdays at Pure (1326 U Street NW). They have a 2 for 1 cosmo and apple martini (my fav!) special! Ladies free until 11 PM.

Chrisette Michele will be at the 9:30 Club (815 V Street) this evening. Tickets are $23 and doors open at 7 PM.

Mambo Sauce is performing tonight at Zanzibar (700 Water St. SW). Tickets are $15.
