Recap: BET Awards 08 | DMVers Held It Down

Lots of DMV residents and/or natives were holding black people down worldwide at the BET Awards in Hollywood. And no matter how bootleg some of the performances were (i.e. Usher, SWV), we still tuned in to watch the awards.

With mad shout outs to Obama, T-Pain's shenanigans and Ciara's hot performances (yes, plural), the BET Awards this year didn't measure up to years past when DMV native Mo'Nique hosted (DL! Why did you call Gospel singer Marvin Sapp, Warren Sapp...omg how embaresing and yes we did notice before you corrected yourself!).

Anyway, see pics of the DMVers who held it down for everyone who couldn't get off work and hop on that red eye:

(Photo: VA's Trey Songz was lookin' extra sexy at the Pre-BET Nomination party. I'm so glad he got off the 90s cornrows-Bone-Thugz look!)

DMV native, Missy Elliott won female hip-hop artist but wasn't there to collect it. However, Chris Breezy snagged the night's first award for best male R&B artist. And as it was one of the hottest performances of the night, here are some pics of C. Breezy's performance with Ciara..homegirl killt it:

p.s. Shout out to my mentor BET's 'SGH'...oh yea I peeped the "Obama Said Knock You Out"! :)

Missy Elliott Shows Luv to DC!!! | Download New Song!

Missy talked about her upcoming album to Express and says great things about the District:

"I love go-go...it wasn't until I went to see the D.C.-based group Rare Essence (the Express put Red Essence but...I know it's Rare Essence!) at a club...the world hasn't had a chance to see D.C. people get off on their music. That's why I did the track "Shake Your Pom Pom," which is most definitely go-go-esque.

Also check out Missy's new single, "Best Best" from her new album tentatively known as Block Party.

DCFab!'s Friday Night Picks:

Aight peoples...sorry if you checked earlier and nothing was here. Momma was out handling her growns folks things -- getting my hair done :) I had a pamper-me-Friday. You gotta do that sometimes. Shout out to my sister who pampered herself too much today. Luv u too. (she prob not even reading this lol...okay I'm done)

I don't know about Friday nights in DC but I'm hardly impressed. It looks like the major clubs are offering a good time.

Love (1350 Okie Street) is having their usual Friday night party. I gotta shout out Marc & Taz for throwing a good party for Caron Butler yesterday.

H20 (8oo Water Street SW) is giving ladies free admission until midnight. They even have open bar from 9-11 if you get on the guest list. Click here boo.

Ibiza (1222 First Street NE) is trying to repeat what they created last weekend. I don't know if you can top a Missy Elliott performance and my fav morning drive-time funny man Russ Parr, but why don't you help them try tonight.

It was such a puuuurty day, so if this isn't your thing why don't you try wandering around U Street. My fav spots to chill are Jin, Mocha Hut, Tabaq and Pure.

That's all.

Missy Elliott Stops by the Grand "Opening" of Ibiza

So, the owners of Ibiza (1222 First St. NE) brought Missy Elliott to their spot last Friday (3.8.08). I don't know why they called it the grand opening...supposedly because of 'renovations'...but it looked like the SAME old Ibiza to me, which doesn't look bad mind you! But let's not call it the grand opening to fool people and get some extra dollars.

Still, the place was packed...I had a great time because I went out wanting to do one thing and one thing only: drink... and be merry; re-live my college years and that's what I did.

Russ Parr from the Russ Parr Morning Show (93.9 WKYS) was in the building, making his usual funny jokes and getting people ready to party. He left a little after midnight (I guess his wife told him to get his ... home). See some footage below of how he almost got me and everybody else:

A lot of familiar faces were in the crowd to see Ibiza 'open' it's doors. Ibiza enlisted the help of DC's top promoters in the area. Shout out to Ray, Nate, James...and some newcomers got acquainted with how hard it can be to promote at a big club. Some promoters were upset that they couldn't come in and out; hindering many of their guests from actually getting inside to see Ibiza's "renovations". (hmmm).

Shout out to DJ Quicksilver who seemed untouchable all night (I would love to DJ at Ibiza; you can see the entire crowd up on that thingy). Anyway...Missy Elliott came on around 2:30 AM to perform her latest single of course. EZ Street from WKYS has the best footage of that and it's below:

But! It was definitely a good night and no matter how many promoters it took, Ibiza's main room was filled. The other rooms still need a little help but that's aight, I like a little air to breath.

Until next Friday it is.
