Recap: 1223 | A Typical Thursday

Last Thursday (3.27.08) I ventured into the city to find a late night chill spot to start my weekend off right. My jetset buddy came to visit (again) and we needed to celebrate! Celebrate what you ask? Us! Duh...

By 11 PM the line for 1223 (1223 CT Avenue NW) was down the block just like last Thursday. So you're thinking it must be jumping inside? If you thought that you'd be silly...because no, it wasn't that crowded to be perfectly honest. They were just being typical and holding the door so it looked like something was going on... the first and second floor were both empty, which provides a great place to get your first drink.

(Photo: Your girl, Joi-Marie taking the opportunity for a photo opp on the very empty second floor)

Like usual, the only floor that seemed to be poppin' was the third and every hood dude, around the way chick and even the classy crammed themselves on the third floor to the sounds of DJ Goldenboy

(Photo: A crowded third floor...)

The peoples must of loved the music because everywhere I looked somebody was backing it up like a high school dance...just raunchy. JUST RAUNCHY. And VIP was just as boughie as it wanted to be...and as I told you before Sheek Louch was in the building not being flashy...just kind of being there. Not a big rap fan myself but...I'm sure The Lox still has fans.

(Photo: It was definitely a bashment over in that area...)

Well, it's shout out timeeee: Adonis, The Hotboy DJ Quicksilva and (one of my favs although she doesn't know it yet) Angie Ange, Nate Z. of Talk of DC and Dave of Dave & Ray and last but not least Mecca on the mic...

Oh yea, and let me not forget to call out the tall, lightskinned bouncer who doesn't know what a fake ID looks like. Listen here, we're too old for that. He tried to deny my friend entry thinking she was toting a fake. Are you serious? Do we look like the type? (LOL, we prob do...but we ain't!) Of course are ignorant selves marched over to the nearby police and demanded he tell the bouncer what's good...he did...he did...okay I'll quit my e-thuggin'. :)

Thursday Night Happy Hours

Okay so I dragged myself outta' bed this morning, had some morning car troubles (argh!)...got into work around 12 noon and have been catching up ever since, all the while wanting to pull out my hair ever since (but I didn't cuz I like my curls!). So it looks like we all need to go to happy hour tonight. The best places to check out are:

> For a nice chill but professional  happy hour, hop over to Station 9 (1438 U Street NW) between 6 and 9 PM. I really like this place...walk up the steps to the second floor when you get there.

> If that's not your scene, go down the street to Pure (1326 U Street NW), formerly Barnun for their happy hour. Yo, people be rockin' in here...dancing like it's Friday. Two levels, I like the top one to chill and the bottom one to party. This party goes until 2 AM.

> Your best bet is 1223 (1223 CT. Ave. NW) from 9-11 PM; it's open bar! (See recap from last week) Guys have to be 21 and are free until 11 and ladies only have to be 18 (hmmm) and are free until 12. My favs will be on the tables: DJ Goldenboy and 'The Hotboy' DJ Quicksilva! Go see for yourself.

Aiight luvs; I'll be around tonight (you already know)...

Recap: 1223 Makes a Good Impression!

To my surprise, 1223 (1223 CT. Avenue NW) was POPPIN’ last night. By 10 PM the line was literally stretching down Connecticut Avenue! When I walked in, the DJ was reppin’ 80s music hard…only my 37 year old friends could really appreciate it; and let’s not talk about the hired dancers with NO rhythm. Not fab! And you know they lied about the 9-11 PM open bar (per usual).

The evening was sponsored by Winston Salem cigarettes (I had to lie and say that I smoked to get into VIP (major boo.)! Shout out to Lee’once!)

The third floor seemed to be poppin' the most with DJ Goldenboy on the turntables and my boy Mecca on the mic. They even had “beds” to sit and look cute on when your stilettos started hurting.

By 1 AM, 1223 was jammed packed (I was standing on the "beds"…home training is overrated...okay, I'm kidding), bottles were poppin' and the music was on point.

De La Soul performed their greatest hits on the first floor. Thankfully I went looking for my friend down there and saw them on stage otherwise I would’ve missed their entire set! All the old heads seemed to be down here grooving to hits like “Me, Myself, and I”...

If I was the SOURCE magazine, 1223 would get 4.5 out of 5 mics. And they only lost the .5 mic because of the lies about open bar. If 1223 is like that every week I might be inclined to go back!

Stay fab snitches! :)

p.s. DCFab! girl will be in NYC this weekend so make sure you let her know what happened while she is away...Oh yea, Happy Easter!

Mini Recap: Hypocrisy at K Street Lounge

Yes, I was a hypocrite and was up in K Street Lounge (1301 K St.) last night. I must say compared to the week before, I saw a complete turn around. First of all...there were people... and a lot of them!

I was kinda' mad that the door guy made us wait while he brought his car around to the front (yes, the door guy that drives the Jag...thanks yo! It was friggin' cold!)

I gotta' give a shout out to the tall guy (LOL, forgot his name) who kept my drinks coming...my apple martini wasn't even sipped half way down before he had another one in my hand...talking about I bought you this. No you didn't; it's OPEN BAR! More like brought... Still, thanks!

p.s. Shout out to Goldenboy!!!

Recap: Empty at K Street Lounge

The numbers at K Street Lounge (1301 K St. NW) on Wednesday night (1.23.08) fluctuated...but somehow reached it's all time low in between happy hours. And yes, the false advertisement continued as there is no happy hour from 10-11 pm. They need to stop lying.

Still, DJ Goldenboy was killin' em, playing all my favorite Biggie jams (Y'all know I only love Top 40 Rap). My comedic entertainment for the night was Anton of Mad Power Unit who was on the mic...still only knowing half of the lyrics and doin' major footwork when the reggae came on. Peep him below (it's pure comedy!):
