Mayor Adrian Fenty Celebrates His Birthday with Protesters

Last Saturday, Mayor Adrian Fenty used his 38th birthday to kick off his campaign for re-election. Held at the home of Karen and Chris Donatelli, active builders in DC, Mayor Fenty endured his party despite the rainy weather and protesters who complained that the Mayor sold government property (i.e. schools, libraries etc.) only to make condominiums as well as the apparent issue of homelessness in the District.

Mayor Fenty Supports Go Go Awards

Although rumors are flying that Mayor Fenty wants to nab Kanye West for DC's Inagaural Ball, the other performer that has been asked is Chuck Brown, the lifetime achievement award winner at the first annual Go Go Awards last night. Last night, Mayor Fenty supported the awards show:

Adrian Fenty is Running Again

It's no surprise to learn that Mayor Adrian Fenty is running for re-election in 2010.

I just wonder who's going to run against him? Maybe I should...lol. Some things to consider:

1) The Metro will now be conducting random bag searches (like anybody on the Metro has time for that!). They won't say when they're starting this but sometime around the 2009 inauguration.

2) Urban planner Rob Goodspeed predicts that by 2014, DC will no longer be "Chocolate City", meaning it will no longer be a majority Black city. He's saying the number will look more like 49%. I guess we'll see...

Spotted: Governor O'Malley and Mayor Fenty

One of my sources said that Governor Martin O'Malley and Mayor of D.C., Adrian Fenty visited Discovery's headquarters for the Semi-annual Regional Meeting this morning out in Silver Spring and were getting boo'd by crowds apparently because of the new Purple Line to be added to the metro system. *Updated* Forever the gentleman, Fenty held the door open for a DC Fab! fan stating, "Ladies first..." Now that's fab! *Updated*

Pic Recap: Adrian Fenty at the DNC

Our proud mayor Adrian Fenty waving the American flag proudly at the DNC.

Thursday, August 28, 2008

Where was Adrian Fenty?

Apparently, Mayor Adrian Fenty, who is also the head of the D.C. delegation at the DNC was missing in action.

He was supposed to read D.C.'s vote into the record, but didn't turn up until 10 minutes AFTER the vote was read. D.C. gave 33 votes to Obama and 6 to Hillary.

Delegate Eleanor Holmes read the vote instead.

Tisk, tisk Mayor!

Recap: Big Tigger Takes on AIDS at Town Hall

Big Tigger kicked off the 7th Annual Celebrity Classic with a Town Hall Meeting and Celebrity Panel Discussion focused on the HIV/AIDS pandemic. The weekend is anticipated to boast several fab! events that will include a long list of DC-based and national celebrities. However, Big Tigger wanted to "use his celebrity" to serve a greater cause, taking responsibility as an urban leader within the African American community to address the war on HIV/AIDS.

(Photo: Big Tigger shown with Mayor Adrian Fenty and Cousin Jeff who both participated in the panel discussion)

Held at Shiloh Baptist Church (1500 9th Street, NW), WPGC 95.5's DJ Flexx & Rane hosted the event, updating the audience with several facts and statistics on HIV/AIDS. Due to the inconsistent weather, the turn out for the event was poor. Thankfully WPGC broadcasted the panel discussion on a special edition of "Yo! Listen Up!".

The panel was very informative in offering new and recurring information. The live broadcast also fielded questions from the radio audience, which provoked an interesting discussion of ways we can combat this pandemic and increase awareness.

Did you know that DC is now #1 in the nation with HIV-infected residents? Were you aware that the majority of new HIV/AIDS cases are primarily comprised of minority women (especially African American women)? These statistics are daunting. As a resident of Prince George's County, I knew that the HIV/AIDS pandemic was affecting my neighbors in unimaginable ways, however, I was completely ignorant about the severity of the matter.

(Photo: Big Tigger laughing at a comment made by Cousin Jeff, one of the more exciting panelists)

While statistics are great, I was more interested in "practical solutions", as presented by BET's Cousin Jeff. Annual testing is the number one agent in preventing further cases of HIV/AIDS. In DC, 10% of residents between the ages of 13-24 are infected with HIV/AIDS. Not only getting tested but knowing your results is key to breaking the spread of this disease.

Events will continue for Big Tigger's 7th Annual Celebrity Classic with Go-Go L.I.V.E., tonight at Fur Nightclub (33 Patterson Street NE). A mobile testing facility will also be on location.

People, get tested...knowing truly is fabulous.

Mayor Adrian Fenty hosts Big Tigger's Town Hall

Not only is the city buzzing because of Obama but Big Tigger’s 7th Annual Celebrity Classic is this weekend and it kicks off with a town hall meeting hosted by Adrian Fenty, our beloved mayor.

It goes down tonight at Shiloh Baptist Church (1500 Ninth Street, NW) from 6- 9 PM. With a panel discussion that includes 'notable celebrities'...although I don't know which ones those are...still, the panel will talk about HIV/AIDS, Literacy/Education and Self Esteem, all topics pertinent to the young and fabulous ones of DC!

And you know Flexx and Raine from WPGC 95.5 will be broadcasting live for their special on-air program "Yo’ Listen Up." It's a good thing for the community so come out and join the discussion.

Big ups to Tigger doing his thing for the District.
