Weekend Wrap Up: Layla Lounge

The Good: The small but beautiful venue has remained the same and the music was bumping!

The Bad: The once classy crowd has certainly changed...and it all happened so quickly. Let's not mention the dudes spotted in fake furs (kind of like the dudes from the movie Brown Sugar...remember that?) and ladies donned some hideous dresses.

The Ugly: Worst of all, the smell of weed in the air was undeniable; it was the first thing you smelled when you approached the second floor. Broken glass was everywhere, you couldn't turn left or right without running into someone, and the wait staff looked worn out and irritated by everyone. Although it was a hot inside, people still partied with their coats on (to cheap for coat check....) which made it even more hot and uncomfortable. Talk about a downgrade...

Howard Homecoming 2008 - Saturday NIGHT!

It's the end of the weekend and if you're not tired yet, pull out your freekum and your hard bottoms and let's take over the city:

If you're looking for THE party to cram into, The Park at Fourteenth (920 14th Street NW). Diddy and AJ will be in the building. They're requesting only black attire (swankkkkky). The party goes until 3 AM.

If you've got the money (because the $45 tickets are sold out and it'll be $80 to get in) head to Bobby Vans (12th and NY Ave. NW) where DJ Kid Capri will be on the tables. It's a masquerade theme...oh and did I mention open bar ALL NIGHT with free appetizers and free deserts all night too??

Penang (1837 M Street NW) and Mai Thai (1200 19th Street NW) are shutting down 19th and M Streets to bring you one of the first block parties in years! A great idea, one price gets your admission to both venues. Get your tickets here...they range from $20-$250.

The third annual Cufflinks and Cocktails party is going down at Champions in Georgetown (1206 Wisconsin Ave. NW). Admission is $20 with a complimentary buffet.

Some sexy HU alum like Lamman Rucker will be at The Republic (1355 U Street NW) tonight. Also, Ryan Leslie (who is working the homecoming scene) will be in the building. Happy Hour from 7-10. Get in with a discount when your print this. Don't think this party will shut down anytime soon. Around 2 AM the party starts all over again and goes until 'until'. Complimentary breakfast from 3-5 AM. The first 500 ladies get in free (at 2 AM).

Y'all know about my huge musical crush on Ryan Leslie. Well, he'll be at Zanzibar (700 Water Street SW) tonight. Reduced admission before 10 PM.(that's mad early)

The City Museum (801 K Street NW) is poppin' off tonight with the sounds of Biz Markie (he's working this weekend, ain't he?). The party is called "Old Skool meets New School" with DJ Quicksilva reppin' the new school. Angie Ang will also be in the building.

Layla (501 Morse Street NW) is hosting a party tonight featuring DJ SNS. It's a more upscale venue (meaning freekum dresses).

CALLING ALL GREEKS (and people who love them)! The Kappas, Alphas, Omegas and Sigmas (damn, the Iotas never get no love!) are hosting tonight's party at Fur (33 Patterson Street NE). The first 500 ladies with this flyer get in free! :) It's 18+ to get in here.

Wow, I haven't partied here in years...Cafe Asia (1720 Eye Street NW) is having a HU alumni party for the classes of '97-'07. The party goes until 3 AM. Don't pay more than $20 to get in here. :)

Howard Homecoming 2008 - Thursday Night!

My inbox is overflowing from emails from almost every promoter in town! It's crazy how busy things get around the District when the most prominent HBCU has its homecoming. Here's your Thursday night:

Get here: At The Park at Fourteenth (920 14th Street NW) not only will Biz Markie be on the tables but (sexy fine) Lance Gross better known to me as ANTM's Eva's boyfriend. He's also an alum of Howard. They've extended the $5 cocktail special until 8 PM and the party goes until 3 AM. RSVP here.

Inner Loop Records is pushing a party at Felix Lounge (2406 18th Street NW) in Adams Morgan featuring one of my favs DJ Alizay. Ladies are free until 11 and there's an open bar until 11 PM.

Ibiza (1222 First Stree NE) is also opening it's doors tonight for HU Homecoming. If you like big clubs, head here although if the weather continues you can chill out on their wonderful rooftop lounge. 18 to enter and 21 to drink.

If you're into underground music, check out Zanzibar (700 Water Street SW) because Fertile Ground and Aniekan Udofia will be performing on Thursday night. Tickets are $18 in advance and $25 at the door. Call 301-537-1689 to get your hands on them. A portion of the proceeds will go to "Praise for the Cure", an initiative for breast cancer awareness.

Layla Lounge (501 Morse Street NE) will have $5 drink specials from 6-8 PM on Thursday night for those 21 and older. The party goes until 2 AM.

1223 (1223 Connecticut Ave. NW) is a little hood but it does offer an open bar from 9-11 PM on Thursday night. Everyone is free all night when you text 1223 to 313131.

It's one of my favorite times of the year. And although the entire week consists of workshops, great lectures and the like, this is a socialite's blog so I'll just highlight the really good events/receptions (not the ones that require an RSVP, sorry) but I'll give you the skinny on the events open to the general public:

>> WED: Young and Powerful: The Final Count Down at The Park at Fourteenth (920 14th Street NW)is a network and fundraising event for Presidential hopeful Barack Obama. RSVP here. Labor Day Parties | The Conclusion

If you want to go out and party with a lot of grown and sexy people, check out the grand opening of Current (1215 CT. Ave NW). For more information about this 'autumn party' click here. This is a guaranteed winner.

The 'Hotboy' DJ Quicksilva will be at The Park at Fourteenth (920 14th Street NW). This is another great spot if you're looking for a more upscale and mature time! The party goes on here until 3:30 AM.  RSVP here by 4 PM to get VIP admission.

CALLING ALL JIM JONES' FANS! He'll be at Fur nightclub (33 Patterson St. NE) tonight.

Layla Lounge is having what they call International Sundays so expect a mixed crowd. With DJ Sexy and DJ Explosive on the 1s and 2s, expect a lot of salsa, merengue and reggaeton in this spot.

K Street Lounge (1301 K Street NW) has a premium open bar tonight from 9-11 PM. I'd start my night off here and hop over to some of the other happening parties in the city.

And of course, with the Republic (1355 U Street NW) trying to get back in the nightlife action, they're offering an open bar from 10-11 PM. My man, DJ Goldenboy will be on the 1s and 2s.

Labor Day Parties: The Jump Off

There's plenty of parties tonight to kick off one of the most celebrated weekends in the U.S. Sadly, I'll be in Charleston until tommorow afternoon but be sure to tell me what we down and who you saw. To send tips to DC Fab! click here! :)

I don't know about you but I'm a little confused. Both Love (1350 Okie Street NW) and Ibiza (1222 First Street NE) are suggesting that LL Cool J will be stopping by. Not sure which club is telling the truth but perhaps he's coming to both.

Elicit Entertainment is celebrating their launch at Pure (1326 U Street NW). Not too sure about the fab! factor of this party but they're giving away bottles of champagne. So if you're feeling lucky head down to this U Street staple.

The party continues this Friday at Mayorga Lounge (301 14th Street NW). Good people (typically recent college grads), good vibe. Check it out.

Layla Lounge (501 Morse Street) has more of an 'international' vibe tonight but at least ladies get in free all night (Guys, they got you until 11 PM).

Jeff Johnson's "The Truth" Premiers Tonight

To celebrate the new series, "The Truth", airing on BET tonight at 11 PM, Jeff Johnson is hosting a kick-off party at Layla Lounge (510 Morse Street NE) tonight.

This party is invitation only.

The much talked about new series is another step that BET is taking to change it's image so that they are seen as being more culturally and socially aware of how it's programming is affecting not only the black but urban communities.

Did anybody else hear how Russ Parr aired out Jeff Johnson this morning on his morning show? Hmm...Russ said at last year's Urban League conference where Jeff was either on or hosting a panel, he seemed too self-absorbed. I guess Russ was talking about the very common phenomenon of 'personalities' often losing focus on why they became popular in the first place. He pretty much called him out.

Still, Jeff Johnson is a gentleman and handled the situation very well, saying that he's continuing to grow not only as a man but as a 'personality'. I like Jeff and appreciate his new show.

Watch the premiere of "The Truth" on BET tonight at 11 PM. I'll be out...but y'all tell me how it is! :)

Youcap: Layla Lounge last Saturday

It was the best party that I have been to on a Saturday in years...The party reminded me of The Saint on Thursday that the Usual Suspectz put on...

The bartenders on the second floor were very sexy. The only down side was that if you wanted to go back to the first floor you were not able to get back to the second floor...

The unisex bathroom was not the best. I saw some of the best dancing from people who needed to go to the restroom.

MR.ENTERTAINMENT gives Layla 4 stars!

Pic Recap: Layla Lounge's Grand Opening with Tank, Big Tigger, Seezins...

eVIPlist had some great photos from Layla Lounge's grand opening hosted by Big Tigger, Seezins (who in my opinion is the hardest working reality TV 'star' in the DMV) and R&B crooner Tank!

Big Tigger with Mr. Collipark...I'm so glad he brought Soulja Boy into my life! :)

Seezins with Big Tig...Seezins you look fab! in this pic darling!

Note to Tank: People who wear sunglasses indoors are usually hiding something.
