Alice Smith performs live at The Black Cat

As any of my friends could tell you I have many new obsessions this month including B. Scott but my other new found obsession is DC native, Alice Smith. She reminds me of a black Amy Whinehouse and has this very cool (funky, fresh) sound.

Last Sunday (3.9.08), this Grammy nominated artist performed her hits like "Dream" (the song featured on HBO's hit series Entourage) and (my personal fav) "Woodstock". She also performed (Prince's personal fav) "Love Endeavor". Complete with doing some cover songs Alice Smith's set lasted well over an hour, leaving her fans thoroughly satisfied.

A new fan myself, I'm not gon' lie and say I knew the words but I was extremely impressed with her vocal ability, able to go through four octaves in one song and make it look (literally) breathless. I remember saying to one of my friends, "she makes it look too easy!"

This is strictly for my neo-soul/punk/R&B heads! Check out her performing her hit song "Dream" below:

PJ Morton Disappoints at The Black Cat

The 'Fly Nerd' otherwise known as PJ Morton was a big disappointment at The Black Cat last night. He didn't show. And because of that we say boo on you. Good thing The Black Cat was giving out refunds to those who came out to support the ATL Native.

Maybe next time!

p.s. I'll have more recap info and footage of Ms. Alice Smith herself who did indeed show up and was amaaaaazing!

Tonight, I'm excited to see and hear the soulful yet funky sounds of Alice Smith. She'll be at The Black Cat (1811 14th St. NW) tonight (3.6.08). She'll be joined by another one of my favs PJ Morton (my sister put me on to him!).

Tickets are $15 and the show starts at 8 PM. You can get your tickets at Ticketmaster but I'm sure it won't sell out so just show up on time.

(Photo: PJ Morton...he calls himself The Fly Nerd. Cute.)

p.s. You don't have to be 21 to get in The Black Cat (contrary to 'popular' belief). Still, if you're under 18, find your nearest adult or just behave yourself and have a good time!
