Humpday Hangouts

Tonight, the Talented 10th Society, along with many others are having a Centennial Reception at The Park at 14th (920 14th Street NW). The reception starts at 5 PM and it's free until 11 PM. I hear that tomorrow (sexy fine) Boris Kodjoe will be in the building...and guess where I'll be?

At K Street Lounge (1301 K Street NW) they're having their usual Wednesday night party with a premium open bar (which means any drink under $10) from 9-11 PM. You can never trust a Mad Power Unit open bar so bring your own money just in case the bartender doesn't know what you're talking about.

The swankiest party will probably be at Josephines (1008 Vermont Ave. NW) tonight. It's always poppin' on Wednesday with DC's most fabulous socialites and I'm sure tonight will be no exception. The party goes until 2 AM.

John Legend at 1223 in DC

Mad Power Unit always has big names drop by their parties but tomorrow night (4.24.08) John Legend will be in the local Thursday hang out, 1223 (1223 CT Ave. NW).

I don't know how or why really since John doesn't have any bumping songs out but...whatevs.

Mad Power Unit at Mezza Luna Tonight

If you're not a big fan of neither Trey Songs nor Common then try out Mezza Luna (1140 19th Street NW) tonight. Mad Power Unit has cleared out this restaurant to present "Privati", a cocktail affair.

It's a sophisticated event and they do reserve the right to deny the riff-raff. (sp?) There's an open bar from 10-11, which you can never trust coming from Mad Power Unit. Admission is free but you HAVE to RSVP to attend this event. Do so by clicking here. Oh yea, sorry for my 23 and younger, this is strictly for the grown folks...yes, I repeat, you must be 23 to enter.

Recap: Sports Bar LA/Z Lounge at the Ritz Carlton

Reviewed by Miss Aminata

March 31, 2008

This was my first time ever hearing about the Sports Bar LA/Z Lounge at the Ritz Carlton (1170 22nd Street NW). While the venue might be DC's best kept secret, the ambiance of last night's (3.29.08) party was...mmm..."so so". The crowd was definitely grown but not so sexy. However, the music was good enough to distract me from noticing...kinda.

This "invite only" event was a decent contrast to a typical Saturday night at the more popular venues in the area. It was nice to see people come out to enjoy themselves as opposed to stuntin' and what not.

MPU at The Z Lounge

Dom and Tupac are throwing an RSVP only event at Z Lounge (1170 22nd Street NW) tonight. Don't be thrown off because it's inside the Sports Club LA...it has an ultra chic atmosphere. It's even in the Ritz Carlton complex, if that helps you out a little bit.

They claim open bar but you really can't trust a Mad Power Unit open bar...it practically doesn't exist. In other words, bring cash. A martini will only set you back $7; a beer starts at $4.

Recap: 1223 | A Typical Thursday

Last Thursday (3.27.08) I ventured into the city to find a late night chill spot to start my weekend off right. My jetset buddy came to visit (again) and we needed to celebrate! Celebrate what you ask? Us! Duh...

By 11 PM the line for 1223 (1223 CT Avenue NW) was down the block just like last Thursday. So you're thinking it must be jumping inside? If you thought that you'd be silly...because no, it wasn't that crowded to be perfectly honest. They were just being typical and holding the door so it looked like something was going on... the first and second floor were both empty, which provides a great place to get your first drink.

(Photo: Your girl, Joi-Marie taking the opportunity for a photo opp on the very empty second floor)

Like usual, the only floor that seemed to be poppin' was the third and every hood dude, around the way chick and even the classy crammed themselves on the third floor to the sounds of DJ Goldenboy

(Photo: A crowded third floor...)

The peoples must of loved the music because everywhere I looked somebody was backing it up like a high school dance...just raunchy. JUST RAUNCHY. And VIP was just as boughie as it wanted to be...and as I told you before Sheek Louch was in the building not being flashy...just kind of being there. Not a big rap fan myself but...I'm sure The Lox still has fans.

(Photo: It was definitely a bashment over in that area...)

Well, it's shout out timeeee: Adonis, The Hotboy DJ Quicksilva and (one of my favs although she doesn't know it yet) Angie Ange, Nate Z. of Talk of DC and Dave of Dave & Ray and last but not least Mecca on the mic...

Oh yea, and let me not forget to call out the tall, lightskinned bouncer who doesn't know what a fake ID looks like. Listen here, we're too old for that. He tried to deny my friend entry thinking she was toting a fake. Are you serious? Do we look like the type? (LOL, we prob do...but we ain't!) Of course are ignorant selves marched over to the nearby police and demanded he tell the bouncer what's good...he did...he did...okay I'll quit my e-thuggin'. :)

'You'cap: Pharell and NERD at K Street Lounge

So you already know where I was this weekend (FM girl weekend in NYC...it wasn't too FM girl tho...oh well; next time?) but I kept my ear to the ground and here's what you missed:

Pharell Williams and N.E.R.D. showed up last night to K Street Lounge (1301 K Street NW). So yes, the rumors were true (Sorry Collin!) Also spotted were ballers Deshawn Stevenson, Antawn Jamison, Andray Blatche, Frank Walker (Ravens) and Derrick McPhearson (Giants) along with DC's own Wale celebrating his new record deal with Interscope records and DC's own '15 seconds of fame' Autumn Joi or Seezinz from Flavor of Love.

Thursday Night | Pure | 1223| R and R Lounge

I'll admit, last night's Happy Hours were a bust around town. So we'll try again tonight. Here are some spots to check out:

Pure (1326 U Street NW) and Street Dreams Entertainment are having 2 for 1 Cosmos and Apple Martinis again. Ladies free until 11 PM.

1223 (1223 CT Ave. NW) has an open bar from 9 - 11 PM. Now that's what I call a happy hour! :)

The Usual Suspectz along with J&K are bringing DC's own Kokayi to R&R Lounge (717 6th St. NW) tonight. He'll be on at 8 PM. Ladies, they have a martini open bar from 8 - 9 PM. Check out Kokayi's style below:

Posted this so the groupies know where to go next time... :) See, I look out!

Recap: Mad Power Unit | K Street Lounge on Wed.

Fab correspondents were out at Mad Power Unit's Flirt Wednesdays at K Street Lounge (1301 K Street NW) last night.

They had a lot to say about the night: (1) The bartenders were rude. Although both the flyer and website say there's an open bar from 10-11 PM, for some odd reason the bartenders didn't know it. False advertisement much?

(2) Remember we told you XM was having their holiday party at Ibiza? Many of the DJs came over to K Street afterward. DJ Xclusive (he's on Channel 67, The City) came through...I heard he was acting like he was a real celebrity, acting real salty up in VIP. Sources also say security was pressed but for no reason because no one listens to XM like that, except maybe old people.

(3) The pleasant surprise of the night was J. Holiday hoppin' on the mic. But why all the profanity J??? Sources say he was on the mic saying, "If you not down with me then f&^$ you! F&#% the haters!" Ummm...the single not doing too well boo?

Still, K Street was packed by midnight...so hop on over there on Wednesday nights. You never know who you'll run into!

Stay fab!

Raheem Davaughn and Taraji Henson

There still updates coming from Howard Homecoming. Remember the Black Hollywood party at the Avenue. How late are we...but if you want to know what you missed, MPW are good for making those videos.
