Trouble at The Republic
Thanks to Jana B. I ran across this -- how did I miss this?!:
For immediate release: December 17, 2008
Metro Transit Police have arrested a Southwest Washington, D.C., woman for allegedly stabbing a man during a large fight at the U Street Metrorail station in Northwest Washington.
Police arrested Dekeria Green, 18, yesterday evening and charged her with one count of assault with a deadly weapon.
Investigators say a fight started between two groups the night of Saturday, Dec. 13 inside the Republic Gardens night club at 13th and U streets. The groups left the club but the fight started again outside the Metrorail station and continued inside the station. Police say Green was involved in the fight and allegedly stabbed a 19-year-old Northwest, Washington man inside the station. The victim fled on a train to the Columbia Heights Metrorail station. He was treated and released from a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Security cameras at the station are aiding police in their investigation, and detectives say more arrests are possible. The Metropolitan Police Department also assisted in the investigation.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call 202-962-1792.

Mayor Adrian Fenty Celebrates His Birthday with Protesters
Last Saturday, Mayor Adrian Fenty used his 38th birthday to kick off his campaign for re-election. Held at the home of Karen and Chris Donatelli, active builders in DC, Mayor Fenty endured his party despite the rainy weather and protesters who complained that the Mayor sold government property (i.e. schools, libraries etc.) only to make condominiums as well as the apparent issue of homelessness in the District.

Weekend Wrap Up: Tuscana West
The Good: The bartenders had heavy hands so most people were really enjoying themselves. Also, the ambiance at Tuscana has only been more enhanced by their recent renovations. With drapes, dramatic lighting, a warm and cozy fireplace in one nook of the lounge and an ultra cool room in the other corner of the lounge, away from the dance floor, all make for a diverse lounge and a diverse party experience. I have too many friends born in December and everyone seemed to be celebrating here. Happy birthday to Adriene, Keara and Fisayo! :)
The Bad: The door was totally disorganized, not to mention getting a table was not only confusing but time consuming (and who wants to waste time getting it together, especially when you're celebrating a birthday?!). My suggestion is to have reserve signs so the people actually spending money don't have to boot people out of their own table.
The Ugly: See 'The Good" then add about a few hours for the alcohol to kick in and you got some people getting.it.in. on the dance floor. Think T.I's "Porn Star" song...

The Good: The location; it's right across from the Verizon Center...the crowd is different from the typical urban socialite scene, which is a nice change of pace especially if you go out often; if you don't feel like getting too jazzy you can still party here comfortably.
The Bad: If you intend to celebrate a birthday here, don't! Buying a table here is ridiculously overpriced (you'll be paying upwards $500 without tax and tip), especially for the size of the table you get (think of a table people used to eat their TV dinners on...that's how big they are!).

Weekend Wrap Up: Layla Lounge
The Good: The small but beautiful venue has remained the same and the music was bumping!
The Bad: The once classy crowd has certainly changed...and it all happened so quickly. Let's not mention the dudes spotted in fake furs (kind of like the dudes from the movie Brown Sugar...remember that?) and ladies donned some hideous dresses.
The Ugly: Worst of all, the smell of weed in the air was undeniable; it was the first thing you smelled when you approached the second floor. Broken glass was everywhere, you couldn't turn left or right without running into someone, and the wait staff looked worn out and irritated by everyone. Although it was a hot inside, people still partied with their coats on (to cheap for coat check....) which made it even more hot and uncomfortable. Talk about a downgrade...

Pic Recap: Go Go Awards 2008
Last night, the biggest names in Go Go gathered in the Convention Center to celebrate their own. I'm not a Go Go girl myself but I can't lie; I was beating my feet to bangers like "Sexy Lady" and singing along to "My phatty, it's my phatty..."
This year, the big honoree was none other than Chuck Brown and the theme for the night was non-violence. Also spotted in the audience was Lil Mama, Wale, Big Tigger, Ms. Gemini and Devin the Dude.

Ibiza Shuts Down For Now...
Ibiza Nightclub (1222 First Street NE) shut down a couple of weeks ago although management seems hopeful that it will reopen. Their Web site claims that the club is closed due to remodeling still, rumor has it that the club's liquor license has been revoked due to many underage drinking incidents, including one that involved a bouncer at the club. Allegedly, the bouncer attacked an under aged kid in a back alley who later reported the incident to authorities.
I'm sure they'll reopen soon...will keep you posted! :)
