Spots to Watch the Vice Presidential Debate

I don't know what you were planning to do this evening but it better be watching (poor unfortunate) Sarah Palin and Joe Biden dabate. Here are some hot spots to do so:

>>> JW Marriott's 1331 Bar (1331 Pennsylvania Ave., NW) has cute appetizers like the "left" wings and "right" wings (I mean chicken wings) and they even have "undecided sliders" and red, white and blue cocktails to help you watch the debate.

>>>
DC for Obama will watch the debate at Mezza Luna (1140 19th Street, NW ). With $5 cocktails and $4 wine until 7, go early and stay late to watch the debate on an 100-inch and four 32-inch flat-screen TVs in the main area. You must RSVP here.

>>> Shamera loves Lounge 201 (201 Massachusetts Ave. NE ) and the debate will be shown here.

>>>B. Smith’s (50 Massachusetts Ave., NE ) features two cutesy drinks today: the Obama Bahama Mama and the McCain Mojito. They will even raffle off a dinner for two during it's debate-viewing party.

Thursday Night Spots

Tonight at Mezza Luna (1140 19th Street NW) there will be a nice professional happy hour with $4 bottles/rails and $5 mojitos, martinis or margaritas! Should be nice. RSVP here.

The Park (920 14th Street) got a name change...they're calling it The Quiet Stars at Park. And although the name changed it's still the same deal, $5 cocktails and $10 entrees from 5-7 PM but the party goes all night.

And at Lavar Arrington's Sideline (880 Capital Center Blvd.) out in Largo, WPGC's Osei "The Dark Secret" and relationship expert Kiki Rockstar will be hosting a special, professional speed dating event. I've never been to a speed dating type of thing so go and tell me how it is. The event is from 7-10 PM.

Mad Power Unit at Mezza Luna Tonight

If you're not a big fan of neither Trey Songs nor Common then try out Mezza Luna (1140 19th Street NW) tonight. Mad Power Unit has cleared out this restaurant to present "Privati", a cocktail affair.

It's a sophisticated event and they do reserve the right to deny the riff-raff. (sp?) There's an open bar from 10-11, which you can never trust coming from Mad Power Unit. Admission is free but you HAVE to RSVP to attend this event. Do so by clicking here. Oh yea, sorry for my 23 and younger, this is strictly for the grown folks...yes, I repeat, you must be 23 to enter.

Recap: Jin on 14th and U | Dave and Ray at Mezza Luna

Last Friday, I celebrated a Fab! chick's birthday, Aminata (my lil hoe...inside joke).

We partied at Jin (14th and U St. NW). Like most typical U Street spots, Jin is small but unlike venues such as Republic Gardens (R.I.P), Jin is a little more upscale.

With comfy couches and even comfier (Remy Martin) pillows, this place is great for a happy hour or if you'd like to go out with a group of friends.

The DJ excludes himself, as he plays from a balcony...but he wasn't that good anyway. You may not 'drink and two step' here...but you'll definitely drink and chill.

I'd go back.

------------------------------------------------------

On the same night, a couple streets away, Dave and Ray along with other promoters had their party, "Babes in Toyland" at Mezza Luna (1140 19th St. NW).

Now...I know it's supposed to be called Babes in Toyland but...where were the toys? It seems like everyone had a Bah, humbug spirit, because these party people didn't bring many toys to donate for Toys for Tots. Next year?...maybe?

Anyway, Mezza Luna is an unassuming spot that isn't too flashy. I must say this party was a bit urban...and I didn't think you could bring urban to 19th and M (with spots like Mai Thai and Penang bringing a grown and sexy crowd...this crowd was more like grown and hood) but the girls were dancing and guys were hawkin' so they must have been doing something right.

Here's a taste of what you missed:

Friday Nights is Poppin' | Mezza Luna | Love | Lupe Fiasco at the Avenue

Why can't I find a good Saturday night party to let y'all know about...shameful. Who does Saturday's? Mitch? Sayo? Abdul? Where the party at???

Anyway, Friday night (Dec. 21) is poppin' off all around town:

My friend Ray of Dave and Ray are hosting "Babes in Toyland" (such a cute theme...I remember that movie!) at Mezza Luna (1140 19th St. NW). A picture of the venue is below:

---------------------------------------------------------

Taz, whose real name is Tesfa (I like Taz better) is throwing his birthday party with Abdul (not to be confused with Abdul Khanu, owner of H20) at Love (1350 Okie St) nightclub of course!

They even got Beanie Sigel to perform who knows what...sorry I just can't remember the last time I sang or even hummed a Beanie song! ;)

---------------------------------------------------------

Lupe's album just dropped...read about it more on BmoreFab!

Still, Mad Power Unit is bringing Lupe Fiasco to the (ghetto) Avenue (649 NY Ave. NW) on Friday night. DJ Quicksilver from WPGC will be in the building and if you get there mad early, around 10 PM there's an open bar.

---------------------------------------------------------

I guess I'm going to Philly on Saturday (to celebrate my ls b'day!!!) cuz there ain't nothing to do here! Or if you wanna hop 30 miles north to Baltimore, see what's poppin' there!
